English is an important topic. People use English for different purposes. In my opinion, there are three main uses in English: Daily life, work, and knowledge.
1, English used in our daily life
Most people call communication English. We talk about our hobbies, food, music, family, hometown, shopping, etc. They are common topics in English. In this case, we don't need to use fancy words. We learn some simple words which describe our daily life clearly. We can make foreign friends by practicing communication in English.
2, English used in the workplace
It's more complicated than communicating in English. It's more professional. We use English to write emails, reports, etc. We present or discuss our ideas in English. Besides, It also depends on our professional knowledge. If we major in computer science, we will learn more words about computers and technology than people who major in marketing or finance.
In most cases, when we master two areas of English which include communication and workplace. We can achieve a lot of awards, and we might climb the ladder of a corporation.
3, English is used for searching for knowledge
Besides communication and working purposes, we use English to learn different topics worldwide. In this case, we build our brains in English. We learn about nature, the environment, cultures, and even politics. We read books and newspapers in English. We discuss global issues in English. We try to build our English knowledge systems as our native languages.
Learning English takes time. It depends on your purpose. Some people need to know communication, while others want to perfect their English in touch and the workplace. Other people want to build their English brains. They put so much effort into practicing English on every topic. Whatever the purpose, learning English is a good thing.
