I was a small girl from Mekong Delta, went to Ho Chi Minh city, and started my baby steps in my career at the University of Economics (UEH) at 18. It has been almost three years since the day I graduated. Sometimes, I sit down and look back on that time, making me smile. I realize that I got a lot of precious things during my four years at UEH.
1, Basic knowledge of Commerce, Marketing, and Business
To be honest, I don't remember almost the subjects I learned at university because I didn't study hard at that time. But thankfully, I got an essential mindset about Commerce, Marketing, and Business which gave me a guideline to learn more about these subjects when I got into a real business.
2, Life in Ho Chi Minh city
When I set my feet in Ho Chi Minh city, the first moment was still like a fish out of water. It was an eye-opening experience. I immersed myself in Ho Chi Minh city culture. This place is a hustle and bustle city. After some years of living here, I started to like this city. I tried the food, visited famous historical sightseeing places, went to coffee shops, etc. I always feel a little bit of tension in this city, but It pushes me to move forward every day to help me become a better version of myself.
3, Learning English
I still remember I got second place from the bottom in my English class at university. I was so shocked. Almost everybody in my class had better English than me. I imagined I would be unemployed after graduation because of my bad English. It would be my nightmare. When I was a sophomore in university, I came back home one day, and I didn't sleep all night. In the mirror, I said to myself, "Hey Thu, you have to learn English one way or another, at least to get a job." After that night, I signed up for an English-speaking course and studied so hard, and It was the turning point that changed my English learning journey forever.
4, My friends
Thank my time at university; I've got some thoughtful friends who always support me in everything I do. Besides, I met some talented people at UEH. I realize how normal I'm. That was one of my motivations to make me try hard to improve myself every day.
5, Having time to try new things and discover the career I want to pursue
When I was 18 years old, although I studied commercial Business, I wasn't sure that I would work in Marketing and Business. I tried different part-time jobs, such as teaching, tour guiding, event operation, educational consultant, real estate agent, ecommerce executive, etc. After doing all these jobs, my career picture was more apparent. I know that marketing and Business are my things. Now I work on Ecommerce, a combination of commerce and marketing. In general, I enjoy my job, although there are some little things that I don't like. I always try my best to discover more about myself in my career.
In fact, I didn't have a very outstanding performance at my university compared to other people. But for me, it was one of the beautiful periods that helped me discover myself and grow up. In the end, I want to send many thanks to myself because trying this time. It built up the foundation that helped me become who I'm today.
