I always discover new learning methods throughout the journey of learning English. It helps me refresh my English every day. Lately, I've found some new ways to enhance my English skills. I want to share with you, and I hope you can apply these tips to your craft.
1, Write something down
It's very easy to do. I just choose interesting interviews, speeches, song lyrics, etc., and then start writing them down in my notebook. During this process, I observe words and grammar structures that native speakers really use. Handwriting these things also helps me remember stuff better as I use my brain and muscle to memorize English. And I read word by word to write things down. I make sure that I don't skip anything in these texts. When I have spare time, I reread the texts and realize that I observe many great things from the texts.
2, Read while listening
I often use English subtitles when listening to English on Youtube, Netflix, or Skillshare. I'd known this tip when watching Luca's Youtube channel (Luca is a polyglot). And I did apply this method after that. Until now, I have also used a "read while listening" technique because it works. Doing this helps me figure out new words, notice the pronunciation and grammar, and so on. The more topics I read and listen to, the more diverse vocabulary and grammar I learn.
3, Free talks
Light, camera, action!
Just kidding, I just speak to myself, not to anyone, but I do use the camera to record what I say during my free talks. The topics I choose to talk about are very random. It depends on my mood each day. For example, today, let's talk about English. I turn on the camera and start asking myself a couple of questions such as, "What does English mean to you, Helen?", "How has English changed your life?" and I just answer these questions out loud. After that, I rewatch my video, analyze my mistakes, and then fix them. Moreover, I feel like this method does boost my interaction when I speak about any topic, especially when it comes to a real conversation.
In my view, learning English should be flexible. I often try and test new methods, which sometimes results in excellent results. "Write something down", "Read while listening", and "Free talk" are very good methods for me. But I never stop myself from changing and looking for new ones in the future.
